River cruise day 1

We were up fairly early this morning as we were going on the early canal cruise. Arlene figured out how to run our cabin’s Nespresso machine and we were enjoying our coffee when our breakfast was delivered. Cappuccino, pastries, meat and cheese. Very nice. After getting ready we got off the boat and met our guide. It was a beautiful morning. Light overcast, but no wind. After our group was together and the audio guides were explained, we set off for the short walk to where we were to catch the boat for the canal tour. We got on the boat and were off. This tour was a bit different from the one we had taken on Thursday as we had a live guide and it was pleasant enough to open windows which made picture taking better. The tour was about an hour and very enjoyable. 121D5EFC-CBE9-4662-A996-AC04E929258E.jpeg4219B756-EE45-444F-9E3A-250172BDB9B3.jpeglarge_F06F9729-C016-48C2-B5C2-613598C9C3AD.jpeg
After getting off the boat we decided to get some steps in and walked back to city centre. We basically just wandered and looked.
We had to be back to the boat by noon as we were leaving for the long journey to join the Rhine and make our way to our first stop in Cologne, Germany. While we were enjoying lunch, the boat left the dock and we were on our way. We relaxed in our cabin and enjoyed the scenery for the rest of the afternoon.
In the early evening we joined our fellow passengers and cruise director in the lounge for a welcome champagne reception. This was followed by an amazing Captain’s Dinner. After dinner we returned to the lounge for the evening’s entertainment. Tonight was movie quiz night. We teamed up with a couple from Wisconsin and a fellow from Australia. We crushed the competition and won easily. I can’t take much credit to be honest. It was pretty late by this time and we had had our fill of food and drinks, so it was off to bed for us.
